What is a retrograde planet in Vedic astrology?
వేద జ్యోతిషంలో వక్ర గ్రహం అంటే ఏమిటి?
A retrograde graha — వక్ర గ్రహం — is one that appears to move backwards through the zodiac when seen from Earth. It is an apparent motion, not a real one, caused by the Earth and the planet moving at different speeds. Only the five tara grahas can be retrograde; the Sun and Moon never are, and Rahu and Ketu are always so.
భూమి నుండి చూసినప్పుడు రాశి చక్రంలో వెనక్కి కదులుతున్నట్టు కనిపించే గ్రహమే వక్ర గ్రహం. ఇది కనిపించే కదలిక మాత్రమే, నిజమైనది కాదు — భూమి, ఆ గ్రహం వేర్వేరు వేగాలతో కదలడం వల్ల కలిగేది. ఐదు తారా గ్రహాలు మాత్రమే వక్రం కాగలవు. రవి, చంద్రుడు ఎప్పుడూ వక్రం కారు; రాహు కేతువులు ఎప్పుడూ వక్రంగానే ఉంటారు.
Retrograde is not the same as weak
This is the most common misreading. Several classical authorities treat a retrograde graha as gaining strength, not losing it. What changes is the direction of its expression: the results turn inward, repeat, and take longer to settle, rather than failing to arrive.

How it shows in a person
A retrograde Mercury often means someone who rewrites their notes several times and questions a definition before accepting it — learning by returning to the material, which usually produces a careful, thorough understanding. A retrograde Jupiter often means someone who changes teachers and tests every teaching before settling on their own understanding.
వక్ర బుధుడు ఉన్నవారు నోట్సును ఎన్నోసార్లు తిరగరాస్తారు, ఒక నిర్వచనాన్ని అంగీకరించే ముందు ప్రశ్నిస్తారు — విషయాన్ని మళ్ళీ మళ్ళీ చదవడం ద్వారా నేర్చుకుంటారు, ఇది జాగ్రత్తగల సమగ్ర అవగాహననిస్తుంది. వక్ర గురువు ఉన్నవారు గురువులను మారుస్తూ, ప్రతి బోధననూ పరీక్షించి తమ సొంత అవగాహనలో స్థిరపడతారు.
Stations and the moment of turning
Before changing direction a graha appears to stand still. Turning from retrograde back to direct motion is called becoming margi. Those stationary points are watched closely in transit work, because the graha sits on one degree for days and its effect on whatever it touches is concentrated.
దిశ మార్చే ముందు గ్రహం ఆగినట్టు, స్తంభించినట్టు కనిపిస్తాడు. వక్రం నుండి తిరిగి రుజుగతికి మారడాన్ని మార్గి అవడం అంటారు. గోచార పరిశీలనలో ఈ నిలుపు బిందువులను జాగ్రత్తగా చూస్తారు — గ్రహం ఒకే డిగ్రీపై రోజుల తరబడి ఉంటాడు కాబట్టి అది తాకే దానిపై ప్రభావం కేంద్రీకృతమవుతుంది.
